New App from New Jersey-based Theotropic (LLC) Lets You Play Pickleball With Your Fingers
Montclair, NJ – A pickleball enthusiast sidelined for a few weeks with a sprained ankle developed the idea of Pocket Pickleball TM, a pickleball video game recently released on Google Play and iTunes that you can play with your finger. Game creator Daniel Brenner, who plays the sport in Essex County’s Brookdale Park, recorded the sounds of pickleball whacks and bounces and shared the audio files and other ideas with a team of software developers.
With Pocket Pickleball TM, we capture the feel and sounds of pickleball that have made it the world’s fastest growing sport,” said Brenner,
“Pocket Pickleball TM lets you practice hitting the ball with varied angles and force and gives you the ability to dink the ball over the net to outsmart your opponent.”
The first tournament in the game is named “The Bainbridge Cup” to mark the historic origins of pickleball on Bainbridge Island in Washington.
Other tournaments include The Kitchen Classic, Pickledome, and The Kosher Dill. Players can choose to compete as animated characters from an alternative pickleball universe.
The video game adds a few whimsical elements to the racquet sport. As the player advances, a mini-game entitled “Dink-O-Rama” gives players an opportunity to do some target practice to win gems that can be exchanged to access the highest ranked players.
While the current game is a singles game, in which a player competes against computer-driven opponents, future updates will include singles, doubles, and multi-player online play.
